The Western Bar is a warm and welcoming place, traditional, friendly and renowned for the largest open traditional Irish music sessions in Galway.

There are Traditional Irish music sessions on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 21:30, Ceili Irish Set dancing on Wednesdays from 21:00, a local band playing all your favourite Irish songs on Friday from 21:30, a live band on Saturdays from 21:30 and our house DJ playing all your old favourites on Sunday from 21:30.

Our bar is unique in that it is very much a local bar, popular with Galwegians, so mingling with the local people is very easy.

A selection of delicious dishes are available from our carvery and snack menu from 12:00 to 17:00 and from our A La Carte evening menu between 17:00 and 20:00 (Sundays 12:00 and 17:00 only). Our meals are prepared from fresh local produce by our award winning chef.

The hotel includes a Child Minding services available- please request at time of booking (approximately EUR 10 per hour)
There is also a free, secure underground car park. The hotel also has a restaurant, bar and private function rooms.

Group Policy
The Western Hotel prefers not to accommodate groups of 8 or more people. Should the group be excepted, a security deposit in the form of cash or credit card pre-authorisation for E150 per room is required on check-in. Furthermore we require a signed statement that all damages exceeding this amount will be covered by the primary booker. This deposit is refunded on departure if no damage has occurred

The Western Hotel is perfectly located for exploring Galway city with all major attractions only minutes away, including the famous Eyre Square. The hotel is within walking distance of the pubs, restaurants and historical locations that make “the city of the tribes” the most exciting and colourful location in Ireland.

All guest rooms at the Western Hotel are bright and airy and are equipped with ensuite bathroom and many modern amenities.

By Bus or Train: Galway’s train and bus stations are located in the city centre, just a three minute walk from The Western Hotel. On exiting the station, turn left to head towards Eyre Square. Stay on the right of the square, passing the NTL offices on the right. Turn right at Richardson’s pub on the corner and proceed up Prospect Hill. We are located on the top of this hill on your left. Driving directions from Dublin: - Take the N6 Galway/ Athlone - At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Bothar na dTreabh/ N6 - At Morris roundabout- take the 2nd exit and stay on Bothar na dTreabh/ N6 heading to Salthill/ N59/ Clifden - At Bodkin roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Headford Road - Turn left at St. Brendans Avenue - Continue onto Bothar na mban - Turn left at Prospect Hill - Pass the hotel on the left, take the first left after the hotel and then left down the Cul de Sac. The underground car-park is located here.It is valet parking, so if all spaces are taken, please leave your car keys at reception and a designated driver will move your car if required.
