If you're looking for something other than a beachfront colossus, you won't do better than the Afroditi. We were charmed by the cosiness of the room, the owner Yannis couldn't have been more helpful, and everything is very close - beach, the old town, restaurants - and yet the hotel is on a secluded side-street with almost no noise. all reviews » Having arrived late on a ferry into Heraklion, we were warmly welcomed by Yannis into his hotel with pizza and beers. From then on Yannis continued to be extremely friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is meticulously clean with excellent facilities. We particularly appreciated the bottles of drinking water freely available in the room which we thought was a very nice touch. The location of the hotel was very convenient for the old town and the beach. We will definitely. Absolutly nice place to stay.Yannis is a proffesional owner!!!! A completely unexpected luxury oasis. The owner, Yanni, couldn't do enough for his guests. Wine, no problem; washing powder and his own softener for the unexpected washing machine, no problem; gifts on departure, you must have. This is a 10 pure and simple and for the price...a 15. It has a great location in the lovely old town and is just a block from the beach. The rooms are large and comfortable with patios and good bathrooms. The kitchenette was handy for breakfasts etc and the owner went out of his way to provide water, fruit and wine for the stay. We had a big roomy apartment with a full kitchen and heaps of storage. Yannis the owner was an incredible host. Parked my car, carried our bags, lavished us with gifts. 4 bottles of wine, I kid you not, worry beads and other trinkets, plus great advice on anything you need. The owner was very friendly and provided water and some fresh fruit upon arrival. The apartments are central within Rethymnon being on the second street back from the sea front. The apartments are a decent size and have a good set of equipment for a holiday let. Hotel Afroditi is fabulous and Yannis is a delightful, friendly and helpful host. Please note that the private parking is located at the end of Arkadiou Street, by the sea, across from the port authorities. Also note that from May 1 to October 31 Arkadiou and Eleftheriou Venizelou streets are not car accessible. Please inform Afroditi in advance of your expected arrival time.
