This author and his partner were at the Elysium for six nights, and each night was a treat. In spite of the rather Spartan bedding (pun intended), the staff was extremely accommodating, especially Emil by the pool and Kelly tending bar. Every sunset, all the guys in town would come up to the clifftop pool/bar and watch the sunset while having cocktails, and the mood was upbeat and friendly; although this is primarily a gay hotel, the crowd was usually mixed. Generally I read reviews about a hotel and after that I book. This time I booked the hotel and read the reviews afterwards. Because not too many reviews seemed to be positive I was a bit concerned that I may not like the hotel. But everything was GREAT. The staff were very kind and helpful, we felt great to be there. The location is excellent, short walk to the town center and yet in a perfect position to admire the landscape. Everybody was gathering at Elysium for sunset... It was very good. I - Georgiana

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews. My friend and I stayed there (July 2007) a week ago and our experience was awesome!! George and Nick at reception were extremely helpful and provide a service way beyond anything I have ever experienced in a hotel. I wanted a rental car, they had it delivered in a half hour. I wanted extra pillows, done. Needed a taxi to leave the island and cabs were scarce and they drove us to port. That damn hill? I came back to the States weighing two - Ian
