Hotels near Townhall Hamburg

I spent 24 hours at this Sofitel property in April 2009 as I waited for a cruise ship departure from the nearby Hamburg Cruise Center. It compares very well to any large hotel chain both in appointments of the rooms and first rate service by its English speaking staff. The large bed, actually two twins blended together, with separate duvets was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large for the price of the room (US$225) with both a large shower and a bathtub. We stayed at the Renaissance for two nights, mainly because we got a great deal for a five-star. My wife is from Hamburg, and we actually met other natives who have chosen the Renaissance as their port of call whenever they visit their home city. The hotel is very centrally located, and the rooms and facilities are modern and sleek. Our room was smallish, but quiet and pleasant. It was my first stay at this hotel that was just perfect that we have never stayed anywhere else whenever our travels take us Hamburg (which is every two years.) The beautifully decorated rooms have stunning views of the lake. It's just a quick walk into town and all Hamburg has on offer including those infamous Currywursts! Drinks in the salon late in the afternoon is relaxing as well as romantic. Doc Cheng's is a MUST restaurant located in the hotel. It's fusion food at its absolute best. - David

We stayed at the Marriott for three nights in December, and had booked a large business-room with breakfast included. The price for the room was quite high, so we expected the hotel to be good. Which it turned out to be! Our room was close to 40 sqm, beautifully furnished, good sitting-area, great bed, stylish and well-equipped bath-room with tub, and free minibar (except for a bottle of red wine, which could be bought for a reasonable price). no surprises here - 5 star service, excellent room, spacious and quiet. made use of spa and had good experience there too. the location is very convenient. the only thing it lacked was a pool. if you want that, the marriot might be a better choice, all other things being equal. - Bernadette

Just stayed at the Park Hyatt on a trip that also included the Regent in Berlin and the Kempinski Taschenbergpalais in Dresden, so this comparison is in heady company. The rooms certainly represent a modern take on luxury, so if you like Baroque, this might not be your spot. Personally, I like any style as long as it is well-executed in details, and the Park Hyatt is for sure. The bath is large and luxurious, the electronics are top-drawer Bang & Olufsen, and materials and lighting are first - James

Stayed for 3 night in this hotel. It is very handy for getting around the city as it is across the road from the central station and has a U-bahn next to the hotel which takes you into the main town in 5 mins. The hotel provides you a free pass for Hamburg's transport, so you can go anywhere! The room was clean and basic, with the maid making up the room everyday. I was dissapointed that there was not a bath in my room, but the shower was excellent so there was no trouble really. Buffet breakf - Pat

Stayed here 2 years ago and very impressed. Welcome at reception was as though I was old family friend hence I decided to stay here on this visit. Unlike my first visit the room was still awaiting upgrade but was nevertheless comfortable and very clean. Breakfast fine and you are asked almost on entry to the restaurant what hot drink you would like. Staff friendly and helpful - whether reception, bar ,restaurant or housekeeping. We have stayed in W hotels, several Design Hotels (this is one of them) and many boutique hotels. Side is the coolest hotel we have ever stayed in. I wish there was a reason to go back to Hamburg. We stayed one night as a stopover on a drive from London to Norway. It was just supposed to be a way station but it will turn out to be the best hotel on our trip. It is definitely more for business travelers as Hamburg does not seem to be a tourist kind of town. I won't bore you with the details - Edward

I've stayed over two weeks at the Madison on business and I'd certainly go back. The staff are charming and efficient, the rooms are well proportioned, the bathrooms work well, the internet connection is fast (but not free). Most importantly, for me, there's an enormous gym attached the hotel. I believe there is also a pool. Another great plus is that if you give the reception a shopping list they will fill the fridge and cupboards of your kitchenette with whatever you desire. The hotel has jus - Beverley
