Heidelberg Hotels

I was in Heidelberg on a business trip in mid- August. As another travel said, I was greeted with champagne at check in. My room was spacious. The hotel was clean and orderly. Staff was helpful in English. Breakfast was traditional German and included scrambled eggs and bacon. Staff was helpful in providing directions around town. This is a teaching hotel. Students undergo a program of training lasting several years to learn how to provide first rate hotel services to guests. For this reason - Nicholas

We have stayed at the Alten Brucke in 2006 and returned again this year with an infant in tow and stayed 6 days. Once again, the property managers Alex and Rainer made sure our stay was comfortable. Breakfast is simple with your usual german meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, yogurts, juices, and fruits. We had several dinners and sometimes lunch at the hotel restaurant. We stayed at the hotel for eight days and thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The breakfast was outstanding, very nice rooms, and easy access to downtown. This is a lively area of Heidelberg, although noise was never an issue. Most importantly, the innkeepers were genuinely kind and amazingly helpful. Outstanding hotel! - Ken

If you're looking for a small, quiet hotel that has reasonable rates and a cheerful staff, the Goldene Rose is the place to consider. It is well located at one end of Heidelberg's Old Town, which makes it about a 20-25 minute walk to the famed castle at the other end. A block or two away is the bridge across the Neckar which will take you to the Philosopher's Walk, a trail offering lovely views of Heidelberg from the other side of the river. This place is not a Four Seasons. People should realize that when they book to stay here and I am really amazed at the negative reviews. The building is quite old, carpets worn as you enter, stairs creak, but the warmth of the staff and the updated rooms were great for the price. We had a double room with flat screen TV mounted on wall, extremely comfortable bed, updated bathroom (although small which is typical) and the most gracious staff one could want. Clean room, nice and friendly English-speaking staff as well. Comfortable bed allowed for a great night's sleep. However, it's at least a 45 minute walk to the city center, (I walked there, but took a taxi back). A taxi ride to the city center is about 11 Euros....not bad. - Paul

This was our third stay here, every time good! Staff are very helpful and the service is great. Rooms are spotless and very comfortable. Location is wonderful and very quiet even though close to the centre. Will use again. - Andrew

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. On checking in, the receptionist apologised because we were kept waiting for about 30 seconds! Then we were offered an upgrade to a Club room for 50EUR per night extra. As the rate we booked didn't include breakfast, this in effect paid for itself. I'd give it 4 and a half stars in terms of comfort and service. The room was very nice. A huge bed (2m wide), comfortable, coffee machine, nice bathroom, etc. The hotel's swimming pool is one of the biggest hote - Tim
