I have stayed a number of nights in meininger Hotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof to catch an early train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof. This hotel is less than 100 m away from the station. I also stayed in other hotels around Berlin Hauptbahnhof and I think meininger Hotel is the best for the money you are paying (well, Motel One is clearly much nicer, but you usually have to pay twice as much). In fact, we did not see any other hotel property nearby, making the place even more attractive - Great value for the money. - Breakfast was extra, but worth the Euro 5.90/per person charged - Bursting with energy of youth. We liked it, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. - The place is very clean overall - Very friendly staff, the best during our trip. There is a plenty of shopping in the station and great connection to the rest of the city with S-bahn, U-bahn and busses (the bus from the Tegel airport has a stop right in front of the hotel). Nice view from the room over Bundestag and Potsdamer Platz. There was a construction site on the opposite side of the hotel, so ask for a room on the higher floor (we were on the highest - 8th). The windows are soundproofed and there is a ventil. It is right next to the Hbf and you do not even need a map to locate it. That means it is easy to get from the hotel to all the tourist attractions. The room is small, literally you have to go up your bed once you are in but given the price and the location, I would definitely stay here if I go to Berlin again. Everything albeit small is clean. There is no air con but given the time we were time, we feel more than okay with the window opened. Rooms got cleaned every day and the toilet is m. I liked just about everything about the place. The ambiance was very friendly and lively. The staff at the desk very efficient and helpful,giving the impression that they enjoyed working with the public. The kitchen for guests was nice to have with the fridge for our foods and the washer and dryer at our disposal. Everything is made easy for the traveller. The location was ideal, 2 minutes away from the train station and at walking distance to the center of town. Special thanks to Nina for her. Fantastic location for rail travellers, right next to the central railway station. Our room faced the railway tracks but was totally silent, so the soundproofing was excellent. It was also nice that the hotel has a bar - we arrived late in the evening and it was lovely to be able to have a nightcap without leaving the premises! It was also good to have free wifi, although the signal wasn't brilliant and took some perseverance. I liked: 1. the location 2. it is clean 3. everything which is needed is present (soap, gel&shampoo, hair-dryer (i though saw that one guy took hair-dryer from the reception, so probably not all rooms have hair-dryers), even sanitary bags and paper towels, 3 ordinary towels are also there!) 4.breakfast was sufficient for me: several kinds of bread, cereals with yoguhrt, meats and cheese, coffee, tea. Fantastic location for a casual tourist or a business traveller on a budget. Spotlessly clean and decently sized bathroom. Luggage room available. Kitchen available for guests! Breakfast varied and much better than your average continental (for a decent price). We did not notice any signs of this being "just a hostel" - as a true hotel, it is probably better than a majority of budget hotels in Berlin. The double room was very spacious, quiet and clean. The shower is big and perfectly regulable. There is a little kitchen for guests. If you only want to use the microwave and kettle is perfect but somtimes there is crowd of young people. Also, the situation is perfect too. Next to nain train station, where there are a lot of places to eat and a supermarket. I'll recommend it a lot!. I chose the hotel for its proximity to the station. I found the station shopping very useful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. My whole stay was considerably enhanced by the recommended walking tour. As a lone traveller I particularly liked the feeling of homeliness in the community area in the evening. It was good to be able to make a cup of tea and cook if you wanted. You can not beat this location, less than a block from the Hauptbahnhop. The place was humming with activity and the morning breakfast was a deal for under EU6. The room was modern, quiet and absolutely perfect. I was not expecting anything more than basic when I stayed here and was certainly delighted. I recommend MEININGER for any city they are located in. It has a unique guest kitchen where my family can cook our own food, store our food and eat at our own time. Very good facilities for those who want to save money on family or group trips. An added value is it is beside the train station and the train station has a variety of stores from supermarket to fast food restaurants and other merchandise stores. The walls in some of the rooms need painting, and also the floor needs some renovation. - first time we encountered bunk beds for a triple room, during our trip. Took some adjusting. - Shower area has only curtains, and the shower floor is only slightly depressed compared to rest of bathroom, so water can spray out on the floor. The floor dries very quickly, though - WiFi quality not great, although staff is helpful. You have to stay close to the door to get best (that means so-so) reception. During our stay, the hotel was nearly fully booked - a little bit noisy and overcrowded in public areas, but rooms are well soundproofed, so it was not a big problem. Wi-Fi is not fast enough for videos and our room was right in front of the Wi-Fi router, so rooms on the end of the hallway might have a problem with signal strength. the construction workers starting to work early in the morning until late at night. The bed linen was definitely past its best. 1.the personell at the reception is indifferent. They are either so by character, or too tired of constant teenagers' flow or whatever. as for me - I asked for a hop-off/hop-on ticket, they gave me this for 16,5 euro, handed over the City Circle Flyer.. and that's it. As it turned out later, the price was only valid with some Welcome Card.. I was asked later off the bus on the 2d day, very far from u-bahn station.. thank you, the reception girl.. 2. the room itself is very dull. Room (3-bed) pretty small, one could barely move, 2-bed should be better. This type of central air conditioning does not work very well - when a preset temperature is achieved, it stops blowing altogether, and one may suffocate. Its controller emits loud clicks.The window should stay shut because of the noisy building site (with a closed window the level of noise is minimal). No facilities for making tea/coffee in room, but this is made up for by the availabe kitchen. The luggage room don't have numbers and could be dangerous if people take other luggage. The building site around the hotel was not attractive. Nothing. Nothing. I asked for a triple room but I have the feeling they gave me a double room with three beds. That made the room quite small for three persons. But anyway, it wasn't a big problem b/c I was staying just for a few nights. The Internet is free but very slow so it is almost useless. The guests of this hotel are usually young people who like to chat or party time to time at the corridors so it can get a little bit too noisy. Wifi bandwidth was inadequate for the heavy use made of the service, so downloads and uploads too a long time. 1. The internet connection in the room was awefull. I gave up trying as of second day and used the data on my cell phone network. 2. I was there for 4 nights and was under impression that i had booked a hotel for 3t euros per night. However, I paid 35, 98, 95,106 euros per night. I was shocked that I wasnt even notified. No a/c. Small room. We had booked a room for 4 people and were given a room with bunk beds. However, the beds at the top were not made and we were asked to make it ourselves. for my opinion nothing is soo bad..any place you will get Good and bad thing but according to the value i paid and location it deserves. The bar could be open longer as no alcohol is allowed in the rooms. At first people were a bit noisy on the corridor in front of my room, but I was so tired I didn't mind. The quad room is small for 4 people. No hair dryer. - The internet speed in the room was not great but apart from that I would rate this hotel as 10/10. it was a bit expensive for a private room. But i think for shared rooms it has high value for money. I read several reviews that said the rooms were small. I would like to clarify that these were tiny/weeny rooms... One of the smallest rooms one can think of. Wifi was a disaster. Would have liked to have a paid but stable Internet, and not a Free and unreliable network. None. Internet was free as stated in description but had no signal in room and very poor signal in lobby. Internet was my only connection to family and barely managed to contact them after some time lost to connect and reconnect. Breakfast is not free and it's better to go to the train station to have a meal (a lot of good cafes there, I guarantee it), bunk bed, Wi-Fi works very bad in the room. it was a hot day and there was no air-conditioning in the rooms. The breakfast was a bit basic, even though it's a budget hotel. - No hot water kettle can be borrowed to the room, not good in season. - A fly was found in the hot milk of its breakfast. - In the first night of staying, the bathroom water looks milky and can sense some smell. - A bit noisy due to naughty students of the next room. - Some noise of trains due to too close to Berlin Hbf. I was in Berlin for 5 days and my room was poorly cleaned. Although there was a nice portuguese woman in charge of cleaning, there was dust everywhere and the floor wasn't mopped at all. Another negative thing was the breakfast room that was too crowded every morning. Despite not being mentioned, the hotel is also a hostel and the breakfast room is the same for everyone. So, what to do? Try to eat your breakfast early morning. Slow and expensive Internet. Noise outside can keep you from getting a good night sleep. Mattresses can fall out a bit. Breakfast selection is small after 10 AM. In-room alarm is easy to trigger for a partially sighted person looking for the light switch.
