The property is very interesting. Traditional, very well maintained and decorated with great taste. Our superior room was very spacious, overlooking the garden, and the bathroom was modern. Breakfast is very complete. We really enjoyed the heated outdoor pool, excellent for spending the afternoon. Overall a great base for visiting the Loire Valley.

Chateau de Portail was a wonderful experience and Claude Herbert was an amazing host. It was nice to be welcomed so warmly into his home with nowhere out of bounds. The house is charming, warm, comfortable and elegant with a relaxed feel to it thanks to Claude Herbert's hospitality. As a family with two young girls (aged 3 and 5) this can sometimes be an annoyance to other guests and the host but we never felt like this. We were only booked in overnight on our way to Calais from Carcassonne. We arrived after a 7 hour drive so a dip in the outdoor heated pool was a welcome and rejuvenating experience.
