hotel helder is totall charming, from the beautiful entance to the hotel decor, and the clealiness of room the thoughtfulness of adding a cot, it was lovley. Very clean, easy to contact, excellent breakfast. everything was OK, location, comfort, breakfast. Friendly, helpful service from receptionists, (particularly with respect to tracing the owner of a suitcase)/ Excellent buffet breakfast/ Location near tram stop en route from Part Dieu rail station and walkable to many tourist and other destinations in the city.

This hotel has to have some fun history. The beds were very hard. there was no information avilable in the rooms.you know usually you find some information on breakfast time, checkout time, additional services, .... furthermore shower cabin non-practical - inavoidable inundation of the bathroom. could have done with a shower curtain but that's a very minor point. Also an English speaking news chanel on the TV.the room decorations were out of style, the non-smoking rooms smelled terribly like smoke. Room, had clean sheets but was not in the best condition. Broken toilet, room needed renovating very basic, some rough repairs. Room was under-furnished - one chair (for a twin room) and almost no drawers for clothes. Also, the immediate neighbourhood is run-down and quite intimidating, especially at night, when groups of youths stand around in doorways, or jostle each other. Getting into the hotel in the later evening seemed to depend on whether the night porter had fallen asleep - why not trust guests with a key?. the noise. comfort in the room and bathroom. once room ready and given key, we found it hadn't been cleaned or serviced from previous occupant and keys were very difficult to work in the doors. Some rude night shift staff on duty. The sound insulation of partition between rooms is poor; the floor, in form of improper wooden planks generate relatively much undesirable noise. Moreover, curtain should has been provide at the bath basin.The pillow was very bad, I still have pain in my neck. The blanket was very old, perhaps it was clean but even you wash it, it looks dirty. Dirty filthy room (bedcover, carpet are 50 years old), wouldn't takemuch to make it ok otherwise.The room was stifling hot, there was no airflow coming through the window and no air conditioning (on a 30 degrees Celsius day), which meant no sleep. For pillows we had hard bedrolls which were extremely uncomfortable. The staff (one in particular) were very rude. What a flop house. I've stayed at some dreadful hotels in my time but this was the worst: dark, dirty, smelly, cramped, no net curtains, no proper pillows, no shower curtains, only one towel in a double roon, and the area was rough, too. All that was missing were the cockroaches. Worse, it turned out that the discount marked on your website was not correct.very poor rooms, we found opened condom package (hopefully unused) under sheet, it is obvious that cleaning of the rooms was not sufficient. despite of the fact we got another room on claim, we it was really disgusting. other point is that staff was not too friendly to fix to issue.
