Our experience at the Barclay was excellent! The staff was friendly and efficient. The room was spacious, clean and completely remodeled and even had a small lounge area with refrigerator. This hotel is definitely worth consideration because it is conveniently located to Robson shopping and restaurants and just a short walk to Stanley Park area. Originally, we had some doubts based on some of the reviews on the site, but realized that those negative reviews were 4 years old. Everything was mode.
all reviews » The hotel was old but modernized. Great entrance with the ivory color theme. The bathroom was retiled, new fan, and matching floor. Despite I ordered a single double room, I was not charged extra for my sister staying with me. For the price of $79 before taxes, the room was a great value. We were accessable to the Lagoon and the Outdoor Jazz Festival...only 3 blocks away on Robson Street. What a great part of Vancouver to part of for the weekend. The front desk staff were pleasant, friendly, an. The room was simple and comfortable. Very good price for what we got. Bathroom was very nice and clean, looked like it was recently updated. The room had a comfortable bed, a nice flat screen tv, a desk and chair and an area for hanging clothes. It was exactly what we were looking for and within our budget. The room was just big enough and considering how little we paid, it was fantastic. The building is old and run down but every effort has been made to make it work. Everything was clean, smelled good, wifi worked, and it was quiet. Much better than a hostel for the same price of a private room in one. The hotel was very close to shopping and buses. Supermarkets were about a 15 minute walk down the street. Hotel is a little old but we had a renovated room which was huge. We had a fridge which was great. Would likely stay again. Didn't have the breakfast so cannot comment on that. The staff are friendly and nice. We were able to check in early. The hotel itself is a nice building. The rooms are a decent size with flat screen TVs and wi-fi. It was a really good find for it's location and price, especially since all the hotels were sold out during our stay. There was a great deal of sprucing up inside the building. All clean and shining. Loved the wide staircase and halls. It was super quiet in the building at night. We had solid sleeps. Appreciated the lack of hotel "art" and mirrors on the walls. Plain and simple. The room was fairly spacious, comfortable and clean. It is close to the downtown area thus shopping, eating, shows are all close. It is also close to the bike rental shop and Stanley Park. The staff was great and very informative. We would stay there again. The accommodation was of an excellent standard for the price, clean and practical and the staff were extremely helpful, warm and friendly. The entrance hall and corridors are very beautiful. You might want to include them in the photos.Excellent value. Location, Budget, Staff & Internet Speed. In the middle of Robson st, Eating district on the right & Shopping on the left. Stanley Park, Gastown, ChinaTown, Canada Place & English are all on walking distance. What can you ask for more?. Great location with great shopping to the right out the door and Stanley Park just a few blocks to the left. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was compact but a good size. Free internet was also a real bonus. - easy to find - great location in Vancouver - friendly staff - decent shower and bathroom - single room perfect size for individual - nice bright front desk area and hallways. Everything was better than expected. Suprised how big and clean rooms were. Hallways have some odd smell but nothing really bad or disquisting. All in all great hotel. The staff was so friendly and it was in a good location good shopping and restaurants with in walking distence and withing walking distence of the sky train. Great location. Walking left there are a great amount of good restaurants, walking right there is the shopping street. 15 mins walk to sky train station. When they noticed the trouble I have on stairs, they immediately gave me a main floor room. I went home early, and they did not penalize me in any way. Some people may not like the fact that there is not an elevator, but honestly the few steps we had to carry our suitcase more than made up for the cost savings vs. Other hotels in the downtown area. The AC unit was old,rusty, and loud. A new AC unit is definitely needed. I don't recall seeing an elevator anywhere. Minor hassle with my mastercard so I had to use my debit card. Not a big deal. The hotel was doing renovations and the builders were working late and were noisy, just outside our room. Breakfast was lacking, but you get what you pay for which isn't bad. The air conditioner didn't really seem to work, but we weren't really in our room long enough to complain. Might have been nice to have an electric kettle and some tea in the room. A few more hangars. It would have been nice to have had an elevator but then again, it is only 3 stories tall. The airconiditioning was a little old fashioned and noisy. The bathroom was clean, but there was a hair on the wall which probably came from drying the walls. A previous person had clearly spilt coke or coffee on the bathroom door and the splatter was still there. None of this was yucky enough for me to complain, just a little more attention to detail needed when cleaning. The bed and room was very clean. Carpets need some extra cleaning and there is not an elevator ;(. That would be hard to answer. The lack of seals on the doors. This is important because of the echos in the passageways. - cleaning staff came around quite loudly at about 8:30am each morning to other rooms, which seemed kind of early, but no big deal really. I am not light sleeper but someone who is could have a problem with sound isolation. No lift. Was only a problem because I had a very heavy pack. We had the single queen room and it was very small not a big deal also it's not very sound proof could hear everyone in the room beside us and in the hall and in the bar downstairs (we were on the second floor). Last night some yahoo out in the alley kept waking me up from 4:30 -6:00 a.m. But not the fault of the hotel and I was sleeping with my window open. The room was very clean, however it did smell a bit of dampness when I first walked it. I didn't find this a massive problem, for all the time I spent in the room. Paying for breakfast (which you can fix) and the lack of secure parking (which you can't). Because my car might be broken into, the girl at the desk felt that she had to help me get everything into my room - even my water-bottles!. you have to park in a different hotel if tThraki hotel is busy you have to wait quite a bit just for parking. Not having an elevator. lack of tea/coffee making facilities. Lack of promotion r.e. the dining room down below, found it as I was waiting to leave the Hotel. Big Bus schedule was for the summer so that caused me some anxt, not the Hotels fault. There were no complimentary toiletries in my room.I had to request them from one of the staff. Guests must understand that this is a rooming house style of hotel. It is old but has had recent renovations including new bathrooms, flooring, beds and TV's. It has always been clean. For the budget traveler it is more than adequate. I have stayed here for years and will continue to do so as I leave the room early in the AM and return ready for sleep in the evening when I am in Vancouver. no elevator, which is quite an unpleasant surprise when arrived with heavy luggages. The internet was not good for two days, it has no elevator so it is difficult with our baggage but people at the front desk helped us, soundproofing. No elevators. No hair drier. the smell of the room, from the carpet, but they proposed to change the room, and they have begun to change the carpets in the rooms. If a basic breakfast was included in the room price, it would have been good. The only thing I didn't like was to climb the stairs with my luggages... The breakfast room though clean felt like being in a bunker. We would have liked coffee making facilities in the bedroom, the lack of was a 1st in Canada!. There isn't an elevator. We had 6 adults and 6 kids it was hard getting everything up to the rooms. No, parking on site. And the parking that was available near-by was not suited for a Van. It smells old. bit of traffic noise from rooms facing Robson. It was a little bit noisy from the traffic outside the hotel. A bit noisy outside but that may us not used to city life. Was not really an issue. No elevator; staff helped me with my suitcase. No in room coffee maker or hot water. I thought it was a bit pricy for my six day stay. Stairs only - no lift Some odd odours at times - cleaning products? Wifi a bit unreliable Some furnishings a bit dated/down-market.
