What people say
Liked everything about this hotel. Its so different to the high rise city blocks. Rooms are great and the staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful. Soom rooms are small but no problem changing to another room if available. Very convenient to downtown Toronto - streetcar stops at hotel door. The hotel say that they are unique and they certainly are. Lovely room, lovely hotel, lovely staff, lovely food, good choice of beers and good location, Unique. Stay there!. all reviews »
Fantastic Hotel with superb staff. Very nice bar. There is always something to do, free internet and water on your room !! nice design. great style, rooms classy and very clean, great alternative to the chains,in a trendy neighborhood. unique room designs, a lot of character to the hotel. very close to everything. The decoration... and the hostess...visited tourist sites in toronto. the staff and the decor. The staff was great. Especially the cowboy (an employee who has been there since 1961, always dresses as a cowboy). The vintage architecture of the building is beautiful, which is nice since the newer owners renovated it maybe 5 yrs ago but still kept with the original style. Convenient location with a super market just behind. It was very nicely decorated and really original. There were a lot of things going on at the hotel, which made it really interesting to stay there. The food was excellent. The hotel was conveniently located near a lot of cool shops and galleries. It was a bit loud, but I'm a heavy sleeper so I didn't mind at all.close to where I needed to stay and a great renovated old hotel. A choice of soft pillows over hard. friendly people. unique rooms. If you are looking for a generic hotel - look elsewhere. If you are looking for something different, and prepared to give up a little of the certainty of generic hotels to get it, you are in the right spot. Sure, parking is at a budget supermarket, the area is best described as a little bohemian, some of the furniture may have prioritised form over mfunction, etc - but it's all part of the charm. A very nice hotel. The room was super nice, the food was good, a street car (tram) stops right outside, and the general atmosphere of the hotel was very good. It is in the artanddesign district and the street has nice stores, restaurants and cafes all the way downtown. The Gladstone is such an old historic hotel that it is quite unique. The artwork throughout the hotel is amazing. We found ourselves checking out each floor just to see the art in the hallways. We loved the beds at the Gladstone Hotel! Also, we requested another room for the second night and we were transferred right away. The rooms are all beautiful and so unique. Quite simply, this was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in on any continent. The small hotel feel ,more than just a number. service was excellent!. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again. The hotel is very cool with a good bar, good bar food, and a nice cafe. It is aesthetically attractive and located in a funky area of Toronto. The Gladstone is a great hotel with bags of character and has been very sympathetically renovated to retain it's charm but brought up to date for comfort. Friendliness of the staff. Decor of the room. Friendly staff. Quirky arsty decor.the unique atmosphere. When we arrived the people were really friendly. The service is genuinenot stuffy. Proximity to events in Toronto, TCC, etc... location, cleanliness and ambience. The enviro was really well detailled...the room was well decored...alsothe art work and the ambiance of the hotel is greAT. good helpful staff, good little bar and entertainment. cleanliness in the room, free WiFi access. Nice atmosphere.Staff are welcoming and helpful. The beds were a bit firm. The shampoo was a bit odd too.....It was in a solid form, like a bar of soap.We drove to the hotel, and, as a result, had trouble figuring out what to do with the car since there was no parking available at the hotel. Room was a bit small - thank goodness for the earphones as noiselevel was high.i've stayed there many times andi've always booked the bigger rooms. with booking.com i had no idea which room i was booking andit ended up being one of their smallest. Not really, but I was ready from a change from bland dependablity to a combination of luxury and quirkiness (unique is another good word - it applies to every room). The room was a bit small but what it lacked in size in made up in decor. I think the parking was the only issue we had as they only have 10 parking spots and they were all taken all weekend so we had to risk parking on the street. The meal at the cafe could have been hotter and the service more attentive. The hotel had a different artist design each room. My wife described the room we got as "unrelentingly ugly". On Booking.com you can't choose which room you reserve but you can from the Gladstone directly. Also there is no room service. Both the lobby and bar could use a facelift. It's a pity the rooms didn't have small explanatory notes from the artists responsible. Breakfast menu was somewhat basic and extra to rate. noisy room, rooms facing queen street need soundproof windows. We checked out earlier than we had (5:00am) anticipated... The frontdesk person should never comment or ask why such a short stay(especially if the reservation is for one night only !!!!!!!!!!!!. We may not have picked the room we were given...what size bed?????...our room came with complimentary ear pluggs...'nuf said. room was a little small. The room was a closet. Very small. The bathroom was very small. No bath tub. First night no parking! Occassionally had to walk up the stairs, location. Very noisy, because of the traffic. In the room it was very hot and theair condition was so noisy that we couldn`t sleep. It`s a great place, but not for sleeping!. too small room, dim lightening there, a noisy conditioner; no lobby; a very unpleasant location area. I left the hotel with bed-bug bites. Over-charged at check-out which resulted in a 10-minute delay to resolve the problem thus making my exit to the airport more hectic. Old,very small rooms,Tiny Shower Corner, nothing really artistic in it, just for one night users that are too sleepy to watch for details..

Chef Marc Breton and his staff offer a menu of classic Canadian favourites and tempting daily specials with a focus on local, fair trade, and organic ingredients. The relaxed atmosphere and delicious, fresh food have quickly established the café as a place to meet with friends, visit with the friendly café staff or just sit back and watch the world go by through the Gladstone’s glorious Victorian windows.
The hotel also offers the Melody Bar, which recently made it into Conde Nast's Top 10 Bar List in the World. "With walls paneled in rich wood, alabaster lamps hanging from the ten-foot ceilings, fat Romanesque pillars, and an original 1930s wooden bar, the Gladstone Hotel's Melody Bar isn't so much nouveau retro as a rollicking saloon."
