The staff were relaxed and very friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable with lovely views. The shuttle bus stops just at the front door to take you down to Friday Flats or around the village. It is a short convenient walk into the village. The best part however would have to be the chocolate fondue served in the restaurant . The breakfast was also great. Kids are well catered for and made to feel welcome.
all reviews » We only went up for a quick get away and have some fun before we headed home for a busy month. The candlelight was great, friendly people. The room was big and comfortable with a great view, room 7. It had a lovely charm to it like you where in another time zone and place. Staff were so friendly and helpful, the waitress we had at breakfasts and dinners was fabulous. The food was good - having a great breakfast sets you up well for a hard day of skiing. Shuttle bus stop was right out the front door, which was perfect. Décor and building were great. Very Austrian. Felt like you were overseas. Interesting to read about the history of the building. The way that the staff went out of their way to make guests feel at home and totally included in the whole experience of summer in the alps. The extent to which they were able to direct guests to all activities and attractions. The location and view of the Mountains and snow are magnificent. Allison, the owner, is an absolute pleasure to deal with. Breakfast was plentiful and again the view was wonderful. The atmosphere of the lodge is superb. We enjoyed the chalet style hotel with view from the large room to the mountain range. I would return to this hotel. Alison at reception is lovely.. very welcoming and helpful. The view from our balcony was a beautiful uninterrupted view of the sky lift and sky runs all the way up to the Eagles Nest restaurant (at 1965 metres Australia's highest). Friendly, cosy, comfy, excellent breakfast included in price, authentically like a German/Swiss lodge. Restaurant unfortunately closed but great restaurant just next door. It was very homely. Great hotel for the price. The staff were welcoming from the time we arrived and accommodated our every need, even assisted with toboggan punctures!!!. Our unit was well arranged and very comfortable. We were there to hike and the trails were easily accessible. The staff of the Candlelight was so friendly and helpful. The room was a little smaller than we anticipated, but the view made up for the lack of space. Parking was difficult but I guess it is in the whole of that area. Nothing you can do about that. Room was small, bathroom was small, but modern and clean. Cant change that either. Price was high for a room that size but again, everything is in Thredbo!. Nothing not to like!!!. Nothing. The parking is a bit of an issue, and I had to park my car on Friday Drive. It's also really steep to walk to and from the village. Even then - it's all part of the Thredbo experience, and I need to stop being so lazy anyway. ;). Nothing. Decor just a little dated. We visited in the late summer and as an Alpine sky resort it was very quiet. Several places were shut, but at least you get served quickly at those that are open. Good if you just like walking - lots of trails for serious fell walkers. Nothing. Website should have advised that their in-house dinner restaurant and bar weren't open during the summer months. The lodge was built in 1958 so is a little old fashioned (with a certain charm) but could be updated a little. Nothing. Lack of parking spaces. Would have liked some shampoo as I forgot mine. Shortage of parking. We were located close to the front stairs, and it was kind of noisy when people were coming and going...but definitely got us up to hit the slopes! :). Not applicable. everything was good probably the main improvement could be the addition of a microwave and plates otherwise no complaints at all. Only 3 car parking spaces and older style small bathroom may be an issue for some folk. Nothing more to be needed for just two nights of accommodation at the lodge. There isn't much going on in the summer which isn't the lodge's fault but unless you are a serious walker beware that most of the village is shut off and is very dead and not much to do. I don't think the thredbo website makes this very clear. But this is nothing to do with the lodge. The accommodation was fantastic. No drinking water in room. having to catch a bus to get to the snow. TV reception was terrible! Noise from other units annoying. the paper thin walls :(. No snow. Poor breakfast. Couldn't connect to wi-fi. No parking,broken fridge. The resteraunt and Bar had closed for the summer. This was not made clear when booking !. The decor is getting rather tired. Bit small.
