Unusual style for a hotel, but once settled in just so friendly, all staff and other guests greet each other so easily. Sitting in the sun outside our room reading the papers was a lovely experience. In a regular hotel we'd be isolated but here it felt like home from home. With the luxuries of a hotel. Great fun in the shuttle buses around the site, easy access to Manly by taxi or public bus. Ideal place to stay evening if visiting the city, just a short boat ride to Circular Quay and what .
all reviews » This hotel is so beautiful. It is a short taxi or bus ride from Manly and just really peaceful. The rooms are gorgeous. We had an amazing view of Sydney. The staff were so lovely, offered us a lift to the station the next day. We ate at the restaurant, also great. Amazing history to the place, like staying at a museum. The location, its history, comfort, views of Sydney harbour, the facilites, the walks, quality of meals served at both the Views restaurant and the Boilerhouse restaurant, the obliging staff, the shuttle bus service. We enjoyed the whole experience and we most certainly will book again. Loved the quirkyness of the resort. Natural, quiet and great views. Private beach beautiful. A different and special place that is being well-used. Room was beautifully decorated and everything was there that we needed. Liked the room and the comfort of it. It was quiet when I was there so that was great. I was there to stay for a yoga course at the Sanctuary and will stay again in October for another course at the Sanctury. So close to everything yet on site you are transported to a different world in a truly spectacular location. The history of the place adds to the feeling of being transported away from the every day. Loved the location - close to Sydney CBD (so not much wasted travel time), yet felt far away. Staff were very friendly (Reception & Boilermaker) - Maddy was particularly helpful. If you want to visit the North shore area this is a great option. Very close to the Manly CBD. It also has its own ferry service taking you to circular quay in just 40 minutes. Close to the nice little beach (7 min walking distance) nice for snorkelling, great view, close to manly esplanade with shopping mall (5 min by car) resort style hotel. Love the spot! Ghost Tour was great and the history that has been carefully maintained is excellent for future generations. Meals were wonderful. There is nothing anyone could possibly dislike about the Q Station. Walking in the dark - would like some low level lighting that wouldn't upset the wildlife. Not always willing to wait or call the bus. Bit of a humming noise from next room - I think it might have been the air-con, but luckily could only hear this from the little side area and bathroom. The bus stopping and starting just outside on the road. Perhaps some basic room service would be good. Noise travels through the walls. You can hear others TV's and showers etc. The curtains covering the glass doors to the room don't quite shut properly so people could peak in if they were inclined to do so. The trip from Manly to Q Station. As this hotel is in a National Park you must leave your car at the front and catch a shuttle bus to your room. Pool table is too old, coffee machine in guest lounge pour latte or capuchino without milk, smell in the toilet. When booking online I requested information on tours,meals etc nothing was sent. I had to ring direct to q Station who immediately got us into a tour for the night. Also the Boiler Restaurant said it was full but the male receptionist when down to secure a booking. While we were there from 6.15pm until around 7.15pm there was 4 2 seater tables that still had no bookings. Nothing!. There is nothing negative to say. No New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (glass) on wine list @ The Boiler house restaurant. It rained a lot so not q stations fault ! Checkout should be 11 am as found 10 too early . Not easy to get into Manly (the shuttle that had been available on a previous visit had been discontinued. Breakfast finishing so early - coming from a different time zone and I missed breakfast because I slept in. Adapters for international plugs - only one available and wasn't the fitting for my plugs. Queen size beds are a bit small for someone of taller stature. We are from interstate. Weren't aware of what q Station was. Just thought we were booking a motel room, so took a bit of adjusting to the fact that we had to take all our gear quite a distance from the car in the rain. But so glad we stayed. Felt a bit dorm like , but I suppose that is keeping with the heritage of the place. Didn't like the shuttle bus but can understand the reason. Would stay again but would make sure we had ensuite facilities. Didn't enjoy the walk to the loo at 3am. Bathroom was mediocre. Lots of light bulbs in the room were blown. But having said that management did come straight away and got all the lights working :). Disabled room was dangerous with no shower curtain and water went everywhere soaking room and no non slip mat. Handrails not well positioned. Room service menu limited to pizza which was the worst pizza we had ever had. Unfortunately my debit card incurred a credit charge when I checked - why?. The shuttle buses smelt offensive in the damp weather. Room service was AWFUL!!! And expensive for pizza that was raw, cold and not cooked properly... Unimpressed... $40:00 not well spent on a very expensive w/e away... waiting for shuttle bus no flyscreens on doors or windows plastic wine glasses with dinner outside. Being charged bank fees.we felt your price said one amount which really only applies if you are paying cash. Remoteness of parking. Not a problem for us but could be for some. Disappointed with in-room facilities and housekeeping: they missed freshening my room 2 of the 3 full days i was there. However reception reduced the bill on checkout as compensation, do that was dealt with adequately. No airconditioning. Not enough hot water for the unit blocks. Internet was not free. TV remote did not work for volume or switching on or off (?) Antiquated hotel system of security deposits tying up funds availability. Very noisy partying in the middle of the night. The fact there is no bathroom in the room for the price is ridiculous. The organisation was appalling. I would expect the price to be a lot lower for what the venue has to offer. The room layout was weird with no tv in the bedroom and a separate tv in the Lounge. The balcony is one full common balcony for all rooms and no privacy. The walkway to the rooms is an old timber deck which is really noisy when anyone walks on it. Our toilet was outside the room and was not very nice. It was very expensive for what you get. It was not what we expected. Room had no window to open so was very stuffy. Booking stated we had a private balcony but that was not correct. Floor waste in bathroom was blocked so the room flooded when the shower was used. Staff did not apologise for this, just said they would tell maintenance. Poor housekeeping - no tea bags, soap and other essential toiletries were not replenished. Bus Connection to rooms was ridiculous - we waited 20 minutes for the bus that circuits, but it didn't arrive so we walked. Meant there was no freedom to come and go. Rooms were not well sound insulated.

Formally known as Quarantine Station, Q Station is located within Sydney Harbour National Park at North Head. Q Station is a five minute drive from Manly or thirty minutes via ferry from the city.

Important information to guests

Q Station Retreat is located within Sydney Harbour National Park - Manly, and private vehicles are not permitted to be driven on site. When arriving, you can park your car in the arrival car park and check-in at the reception area. From there, a shuttle bus will take you to your room. The shuttle bus runs on a continuous loop to assist guests in moving throughout the Q Station site. Guests planning to arrive by car are welcome to contact the property for more information using the contact details on the booking confirmation.

Q Station Retreat is nestled on Manly's famous North Head deep in the heart of Sydney Harbour National Park. It's just a 5 minute drive from cosmopolitan Manly on the Northern Beaches.

Manly is just a 30 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay.
A visit to Manly by ferry is a quintessential Sydney experience. Nestled between a tranquil inner-harbour beach on one side and a popular Pacific Ocean surf beach on the other, Manly manages to combine a laid-back attitude with a sophisticated dining scene and stylish boutiques.

The palm-tree lined Corso leads you onto the Steyne promenade, where you can walk, roller-blade or cycle along the oceanfront. There are lots of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and shops.

Travelling information

By water taxi: To visit outside water shuttle times, or to arrive or depart from another point on Sydney Harbour, visitors can book a water taxi. The water taxi can pick up guests from numerous locations around Sydney Harbour including Darling Harbour, North Sydney, Watsons Bay, Mosman and Balmoral. By bus: Bus number 135 operates a service from Manly Wharf to Q Station and North Head.
