Built in the early 1900s, The Priory is situated on 6 acres of land alongside the Irwin River. This hotel offers a bar, restaurant and a swimming pool. All rooms are air-conditioned and include a TV. The Colonial Bar features pool tables and weekly live entertainment. The 1881 Restaurant serves à la carte meals and offers both indoor and outdoor heated dining areas. The Priory Hotel is 5 minutes’ drive from both Denison Beach and the Dongara Golf Course. It is a 12-minute walk from the Dongara-Denison Tourist Information Centre. All rooms feature a wardrobe and a small refrigerator. Some rooms have a private bathroom with free toiletries provided.

There was a minor misunderstanding with the booking but it was dealt with in a very friendly and efficient manner and while we waited for the room to be made ready we were offered complimentary drinks, we were also given a very generous discount. In addition the staff and locals in the bar were very friendly. - Honest pricing - we got what we paid for - it looked and feeled clean enough, and this has not always been the case in other hotels in Australia so far ! - nice setting in an historical building, nice change from th bunker style hotels we had till now.
all reviews » Wonderful atmosphere being in an old boarding school. Lovely sitting on the wide verandah having an afternoon drink and seeing the lovely eucalypts. Close to town which is worth walking around to see historic buildings. Have been there for a day for about four years ( catching up with a mate in Carnarvon) and have always enjoyed it. In particular Rhonda and Mandy were excellent !! Please tell them . Food was great too. For it's age, the property is in good condition and well maintained. Clearly the owners are working away at a full restoration, a huge task. A lot of history surrounds this hotel. Gracious well maintained old buildings and rooms with a lot of space. Huge grounds with well tended gardens and swimming pool. Very relaxed atmosphere and very quite location. What an amazing old building, really loved it and exploring the area. The pool was great. We enjoyed the meal we had and breakfast was good value too. All really good. Beautiful surroundings in keeping with the "olde world" buildings. Very clean, neat and tidy, staff friendly.Would definitely stay again. Historic building, great atmosphere, Sunday evening live entertainment, decent food, friendly guests and staff. Comfortable rooms. Central in the town. Close to where the function was that we were attending. Beautiful old building and lovely gardens. The ambience was appropriate for the age of building. Food in the Sovereign Bar was of very good quality and quantity, service was also very pleasant. The hotel has ensure the survival of the building. memories of when I went to school there. Location was good. The old building. cold beer. Lovely old building and a good, obviously fairly modern pool. Not bad value for money. 1 . Old world charm 2. Upgraded to best room. 3. Bed was clean & comfortable. nothing. No en suites, but then again would one expect them at the price?. TV didn't work and no heating. As we were travelling with our elderly father who is not so good on his feet, it was a little difficult his having to go up and down the few stairs, although for the average traveller this would not be a problem. For the same reason it was a bit awkward that the bathroom was not an ensuite but a shared facility. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. I didn't realise there was no en-suite, but that wasn't a big deal. Overall no complaints. Reception not well signed. No breakfast options or suggestions. Nothing. Directions from receptionist to find our room were poor,. Mosquitoes in beer garden Partly blocked drain in one communal shower. nothing, there is absolutly nothing you wouldnt like about the priory, its super friendly and great place to stay in my opinion. bit tricky to find the back entrance from parking. Unfortunately 1881 Restaurant was underused in the evenings. The property still needs more investment and the cook needs replacement. Iceberg lettuce in a Caesar salad -- give us a break. Someone backed into our car and dented the boot and did not leave a note. TV very small. Air con did not work well, it took a long time for room to warm. Lighting on the stairs was not good. Husband fell as he was going down. having to walk down passage to toilet and shower and share.got to sleep at 3.30 am.Party in pool and it was outside our window.curtains did not fit. So tired and in need of a sympathetic overhaul. Room had 2 windows - the bottom of one was about 2 feet above my head and the other the curtains wouldn't open. The room was bilious green. Food was obviously 'pinged' and not very good. 1. Room was cold 2. A/C reverse cycle not working 3. If that was best room - hate to see the worst. 4. Restaurant not open - when we asked, told we could eat in the bar which was cold, noisy (blairing TV) and uncomfortable. We asked if there was anywhere else and were shown a tiny room with fireplace but no fire - and cold as ice. We ate at the local pub 5. Such a shame as the place has potential - but until this is realised - forget it!!.
