Bicycle rental is available. The hostel is just a 1-minute walk from Yuukou-no-Oka bus stop, which is a 10-minute bus ride from the Takayama bus terminal.
A free-use internet station and a coin launderette are provided. The common area has a wood-burning stove and a TV. A microwave is included in the free-use kitchen.

Being located at a certain elevation, I enjoyed the nice window view of the city with the mountains at the background.
I loved the 50% discount coupon of a nearby hotel quality onsen. I appreciated the shuttle sevice at 9 a.m. heading the town below. I liked the helpfulness of the staff though they seemed to be shy, like a lot of the Japanese.
Nice staff, really friendly people!
Its in the outskirts of Takayama, so really peaceful and beautiful place. Though Takayama is rather small. Only about 15-20 min walk from the station.
Comfortable beds, curtains around them as well for privacy amd keeping the light out.

Easy to find by car, just next to Hida no Sato!
We booked the same day and were lucky to get a whole 8 bed dorm just for the 2 of us!
Very clean toilets, great showers. big fully furnished kitchen. Comfortable beds with 2 very convenient electrical outlets, friendly staff.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Picked us up from the station and even got us a ride back with someone who was going down. Also, twin room was spacious and the cool breeze and river flowing nearby made for two very good nights of sleep. Nice kitchen you can use too.
Very clean house. Nice rooms. Shower room very clean and nice, the same is with toilets. Close to Hida o Sato village. 20 minutes from train station, which is for people who like to walk not really much :) Staff friendly and speaking English.
Lovely building. Room was really comfortable and quite large. Had a little couch just outside the door which was nice to enjoy a beer and gaze out window. Short walk to Hida folk village.
It is very spacious with a functional kitchen. Very cosy to sit in front of the fireplace in the dining room. The staff speak English and they are so inviting and helpful.
Friendly staff and was very clean. Very good value for money, the owners reduced the price once they realised I was travelling solo which I thought was really nice.

The facilities, staff and woodfire were all lovely.
A good traditional pack packers hostel with the Japanese touch. Good
shower and beds (electric blankets), a good friendly feel and easy
walking to other areas - if able. Friendly staff and good facilities.
Would recommend as experience. Good area to visit. No problems walking

Takayama is cold. So naturally the house got cold too. They had plenty of heaters though but I felt ecounfriendly using them.
Curtains for privacy and light would be appreciated.
As others have said it's quite a walk from the center (about 15 minutes).
Was a 20 min hike up the hill. Found it was a bit inconvenient for us and would sometimes be walking up and down 4 times in one day. Did a load of washing and put it in the dryer for over an hour. Clothes did not dry. Very frustrating, but luckily we had our own lines and hung up in the room.
Nothing to complain.
The mattresses were a bit hard but that is just being picky. I didn't really meet anyone else while I was there but this could have just been because of the time of year?.
It is a little outside from town (maybe a 20 min walk). There is a bus, but it stops running at about 5 pm. It smells a bit from the gas heater, but it was fine for us.
A bit far from center (10-15 mins walking to the station) but if you rent the bike this is not really a problem.
It is about 5-10 mins drive away from city so that it is quiet but not good for somebodies expect high convenience.
20 minutes on foot to the station, with irregular buses in winter.
The upstairs toilet washing tank should have hot water supply.
Even though the furniture and fittings seemed new it still has a dated feel to it.
Location is 20-30 minutes walk. Note that buses run only between 09:30-16:30. Not a problem if you rent a bike or don't mind walking, but as a base for trips to central mountain range not very convenient.
